Premise: Paralyzed by fear from shocking visions, a woman’s torment worsens as she discovers her waking dreams are terrifying realities.

What I Liked: Have you even wondered what it’s like to walk backwards? Not just walk backwards. Climb things. Punch people. Kill scores of thems. All while moving backwards. The physics behind that makes my head hurt like a tumor that needs to be excised!

There’s a complete great action sequences that would make a Marvel Movie slow clap.

What I Didn’t Like: As far as horror movie goes, James Wan, director and apparent co-writer of this dribble, has been better. There just too much to follow and it dangerously all over the place. It starts like a really bad B-list movie, which I can appreciate if it keep that same b-horror magic. It didn’t it started to fill up with characters that was flat and one note. It required a lot of suspension of belief, which is bizarre to say about a fictional movie. The story line was here and there and mixed so many elements together, I ultimately felt cheated once the monster was revealed.

All the while I was telling myself, I’ve seen stories like this done better. The only one that comes to mind is The Dark Half by Stephen King. Even in that movie there’s no escaping the elements the plot device forces the writers to use, but Malignant some how took it and ran way too far with it.

Verdict: ti hctaW. You might enjoy it more than I did. It’s in theaters currently and available for streaming on HBOMax.
