ACT 6, SCENE 1 INT: GARAGE – LATE AFTERNOON
AMED is looking out onto the horizon. He follows the sounds of sirens in the distance.
REV (O.S.):
Are those for me?
AMED:
They’re headed for Caniff Park.
REV (O.S.):
Good. There’s still time. I think I should go to Uptown. Hide somewhere in the shoe district. What do you think?
AMED:
Maybe.
REV:
Come over here.
AMED obeys.
REV:
Honestly, what do you think about Uptown?
AMED:
It’ll work temporarily.
REV:
Why?
AMED:
You already know why.
REV raises the gun.
REV:
You’re worried about them too. (BEAT) So all I gotta do is aim and pull?
AMED:
Yes. It’s automatic.
REV:
Okay. Be ready. They are no longer our family. They’ve been tainted.
AMED is emotionless.
ACT 6, SCENE 2 INT – TRAP HOUSE – CONT’D
Since NEB has opened her wings everything is moving in slow motion except for her and GOATMAN. So the SWAT team enters slowly and LOCO moves just as slow.
He is slowly opening his mouth.
NEB:
Wherever you hide, whoever you reside in, I will find you.
GOATMAN:
More.
NEB:
You are gluttonous with rage and chaos. No more.
GOATMAN:
Blood.
LOCO’S mouth widen into a smile. His eyes are delirious. SWAT enters with guns raised.
NEB:
There will be blood, but none by your doing. They will be free.
GOATMAN:
More!
NEB:
For today, there will be no more.
NEB grabs him. BRIGHT LIGHT.
NEB without wings is pulling her full cart of cans out of the trap house. She picks up a stray can around LOCO, who has slowly raised a gun up. SWAT takes a knee and point their weapons.
NEB walks out of the way and disappears behind a pillar.
At regular speed, LOCO pulls the gun to his head.
SWAT flitches as a single gunshot rings out.
ACT 6, SCENE 3 INT: GARAGE – CONT’D
SISTER pokes her head out of the utility closet. When she feels the coast is clear, she urges LEIGH to step out. They don’t get too far.
OMAR:
What are you doing?
SISTER:
We’re getting out of here.
OMAR looks from her to LEIGH.
OMAR:
Ok. Let’s do this.
CUT TO: THE CONFRONTATION
OMAR:
Rev we need to talk.
REV:
Of course.
AMED:
They’re right there.
REV:
Come out Sister. Why do you hide?
OMAR:
This is over. We failed.
REV:
Sister, what are you doing?
SISTER steps in front of LEIGH, bravely.
SISTER:
I’m saving my child.
REV:
Josh is dead.
SISTER:
I know that. I can’t keep holding on to him, or my sister or none of the other tragedies. Just what I have in the present, and I have Leigh.
REV:
You’ll let a child ruin everything?
SISTER:
I believe in her-
REV raises his gun and pulls the trigger. SISTER falls to the ground dead. LEIGH screams and runs.
OMAR reacts quickly and attempts to wrestle the gun out of REV’S head.
REV:
Protect me!
AMED intervenes and pushes OMAR back.
OMAR:
I see where all my strength went to.
INTERCUT with LEIGH running down the garage with REV giving chase.
LEIGH:
HELP ME! Someone help!
REV fires a shot but misses. Window shatters. LEIGH dodges behind a car.
OMAR:
I don’t want to fight –
AMED punches OMAR and they fight.
OMAR:
Stop!
AMED:
I can’t!
AMED blocks a punch and catches OMAR fists and easily breaks OMAR’S finger.
OMAR screams.
LEIGH:
Help!
REV fires another shot and misses.
REV:
Keep screaming. All the better to hear you with. Ungrateful jezebels. You all take and take. I gave you what you all asked for and still you won’t let me have just a little.
AMED and OMAR fight.
OMAR:
Please Amed stop!
OMAR finally gets an upper hand and gets AMED into a chokehold.
AMED:
I can’t!
OMAR:
We can fight it together. We’re stronger together. Always have been.
AMED relaxes a bit.
OMAR:
Always will be stronger together.
AMED:
We got to break the curse.
OMAR:
I know.
AMED:
No. I mean forever. Once and for all. We can’t go back. There’s no life for us. Do you understand? Can you do that?
OMAR nods.
REV:
Come out, child. This is your reckoning.
With every shot from REV’S gun, LEIGH flitches and gets visions of every violent death. NETTA. LOCO. MARIA SUAREZ. SHAUNICE. JOSHUA.
The shooting stops. LEIGH looks up. REV is smiling down on her.
OMAR AND AMED (UNISON):
Rev!
REV is caught off guard as The Butler Brothers grab REV up in both their arms and run, run all the way across the garage and throw themselves over board.
ACT 6, SCENE 4 INT: OFFICE – CONT’D
MELISSA shreds all her documents in the manila folder the MAYOR gave to her.
ACT 5, SCENE 5 INT: TRAP HOUSE – CONT’D
SWAT OFFICER presents a cellphone to his superior.
SWAT:
Found this.
SUPERIOR looks at the phone.
SUPERIOR:
The hell is this?
SWAT OFFICER shrugs.
POV CELLPHONE PIC OF THE MAYOR with RICKY and LOCO.
ACT 6, SCENE 6 INT: GARAGE – CONT’D
LEIGH slowly looks over the railing in horror.
HER POV: AMED, OMAR, and REV below. Traffic has stopped. Others gather around.
ACT 6, SCENE 7 EXT: GARAGE – CONT’D
AMED is gasping for air. REV is dead. OMAR is staring lifelessly back at his brother.
AMED twitches as if to reach out to OMAR.
FOOTSTEPS approach and the familiar roll of a shopping cart of cans.
NEB kneels into view.
QUICK CUT TO LEIGH who is surprised to see NEB’S wings from above.
NEB:
What is it you need?
AMED gasps one long breath.
HARD CUT TO ACT 6, SCENE 8 INT: HOSPITAL ROOM
