ACT 3, SCENE 1 INT – SISTER’S HOME

OMAR BUTLER and SISTER NETTA BIRDSONG both standing over LEIGH. OMAR’S phone rings, but he sends it to voice mail.

                        OMAR:

I can’t believe you did this.

                        SISTER:

I got scared. She found the body in the basement.

                        OMAR:

Explain that part to me again. How did she do that?

                   SISTER:

I don’t know. She can somehow see things I can’t see, even the ghosts in the house, even my sister, even Josh.

                   OMAR:

Oh.

                   SISTER:

They were helping her. I think they’re angry with me. What did I do?

                   OMAR:

Leigh’s just resourceful. (beat) At least, she’s breathing.

                        SISTER:

     What am I gonna do?

                        OMAR:

Maybe Rev could use his power to wipe her memory. Tell her that she fell down the stairs.

                        SISTER:

I told you she can see things now. She’ll see right through that lie.

OMAR’s phone rings again, but he sends it to voicemail again.

                        SISTER:

     Why couldn’t I see them?

                        OMAR:

I don’t know but we seriously need to think about what to do if Rev isn’t an option.

                        SISTER:

     I need a drink.

                        OMAR:

Not this again. Didn’t Rev cure you?

                        SISTER:

I was talking about my tea.

                        OMAR:

Well, I was talking about your impulsive ass decisions.

                        SISTER:

     I don’t know. I don’t know anymore.

                        OMAR:

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to swear at you.

OMAR goes to hug her, but she pulls away from him as she stares down at LEIGH. OMAR feels slighted.

                        SISTER:

     Don’t coddle me. You’re right. I wasn’t thinking. I was wrong.

                        OMAR:

     You protected yourself.

                        SISTER:

I shouldn’t have hurt her. I’m supposed to keep her safe.

                        OMAR

She was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

                   SISTER:

They said that about Josh.

                   OMAR:

Ok, relax Sister. We can fix this.

                   SISTER:

We said that about Shaunice.

                   OMAR:

Until you can think clearly, I’m gonna crush a bunch of sleeping pills and maybe we can dissolve it in her mouth or something.

                        SISTER:

     Will that kill her?

                        OMAR:

I don’t know but it’s the only option we got. We have to keep her sedated before she gets up or you’ll have more problems to deal with.

OMAR’S phone rings again.

                        SISTER:

You might as well pick it up. It doesn’t look like they’ll stop.

                        OMAR:

     Hello?

ACT 3, SCENE 2 EXT: BUTLER’S HOME – CONT’D

                        AMED:

     Where are you?

INTERCUT:

                        OMAR:

     With Sister, why?

                        REV:

     Tell him to meet us.

                        AMED:

Rev needs to see us. All of us.

                        OMAR:

You’re with him? Um, you heard what they’ve been saying about him right?

                        REV:

     It doesn’t matter…!

AMED:

It doesn’t matter. We could all lose right now if we don’t focus on what’s at stake.

                        OMAR:

I agree. I’m at Sister’s standing over Leigh, because she exposed what Rev was doing behind closed doors.

                        AMED:

I told you to focus on what matters. We need to see you.

                        OMAR:

You alright?

                        AMED:

There’s a lot happening. Where is it safe in the Heights to meet?

                   OMAR:

My place.

                   AMED:

No. Too many people. We need fewer eyes.

                   OMAR:

The garage across the street from my place I guess. You sure you alright?

                   AMED:

Meet us there.

                   Omar:

Ok, when…

Dial tone.

                        OMAR:

     Sister, we need to start…

SISTER singing to LEIGH and brushing her hair out of her face.

                        OMAR:

Sister, Rev needs us. It sounds serious.

                        SISTER:

     Ok.

OMAR’S phone rings and he answers it.

                        OMAR:

     Amed?

                        CHRISTINA APOSTOLOU:

     No. It’s Christina.

                        OMAR:

Hey. Sorry about that. How are you?

                        CHRISTINA:

You’re being funny, right? Didn’t you get the messages?

                        OMAR:

Sorry I’ve been really busy with family stuff going…

                        CHRISTINA:

George killed himself, Omar.

OMAR isn’t shocked, but he tries to act it.

                        OMAR:

     Oh god…

OMAR muffles the phone.

                        OMAR:

Hurry up with the sedatives. And George killed himself.

SISTER doesn’t care and continues to hold LEIGH. OMAR shakes his head and returns to the call.

                        OMAR (O.S.):

      I can’t believe it.

ACT 3, SCENE 3 INT: TRAP HOUSE – DAY

LOCO ZANE is staring at the mural of the GOATMAN. The sound of rushing wind is everywhere, but nothing is blowing up disturbed except for the trees in the mural. They move and so does the GOATMAN…he moves forward a step.

DISEMBODIED VOICE:

Kill them all. More blood. Free me.

LOCO is alarmed, turns, and runs out of the trap house.

ACT 3, SCENE 4 EXT: TRAP HOUSE – CONT’D

RICKY GUERRA keeps fiddling with his phone. He gets frustrated when it doesn’t work. He walks around searching for reception.

                        RICKY:

C’mon pick up the phone. I’m in deep shit.

RICKY lowers the phone in disappointment. He is distracted by rustling in the woods nearby so LOCO ZANE suddenly runs up behind RICKY.

                        LOCO:

     Come back inside.

RICKY jumps.

                        RICKY:

     Shit!

                        LOCO:

     Come back inside.

                        RICKY:

     Why?

                        LOCO:

You gotta see this.

LOCO starts to pull him towards the trap house. RICKY pulls himself away.

                        RICKY:

Nah, bro. I feel trapped. I ain’t getting no reception, and I think someone’s out there.

                        LOCO:

     You hear it?

                        RICKY:

Ya, it’s coming from over there, like someone’s hiding or some shit.

                        LOCO:

No. It’s louder inside.

                        RICKY:

     …

                        LOCO:

     …

                        RICKY:

Please don’t give me that Goatman shit again.

                        LOCO:

     But it’s inside. Trust me.

                        RICKY:

I’m leaving if there ain’t shit there.

RICKY walks towards the trap house. LOCO follows and turns his head towards the direction of rustling in the leaves. He pats down something under his shirt and runs back into the trap house.

ACT 3, SCENE 5 INT: TRAP HOUSE – CONT’D

LOCO gets closer to the mural of the Goatman.

                        RICKY:

I’m serious. I’m leaving if there ain’t shit. You going with me?

                        LOCO:

     He’s over here.

RICKY follows.

                        LOCO:

     Look. He’s moving.

RICKY is staring at the mural.

                        RICKY:

No it’s not. Can we go?

                        LOCO:

     No. Look. Hard.

RICKY stares again.

                        LOCO:

     Listen.

                        RICKY:

What’s that? Oh, the sound of us leaving.

LOCO grabs RICKY’S head and forces him to stand still.

                        RICKY:

     Yo!

                        LOCO (O.S.)

     Listen.

RICKY starts to hear rushing winds. The trees in the mural start to sway.

                        RICKY:

     Yo. I hear it.

                        LOCO (O.S.):

     Shush.

                        RICKY:

No for real. I hear it. What is that?

                        LOCO (O.S.):

     Do you see it now?

LOCO pulls back his hand and RICKY slowly realizes the GOATMAN is moving.

                        RICKY:

     Yo…

                        LOCO (O.S.):

     You see it?

GOATMAN pushing out through the painting.

                        RICKY:

     Yo! What the f-?

RICKY suddenly gasps for air. He turns to LOCO and holds his bloody throat.

LOCO is smiling with a bloody box cutter in his hand and keeps stabbing him in the neck.

                        LOCO:

     See. I’m not crazy.

RICKY keeps gasping, until LOCO shoots him in the chest.

AS RICKY lies dead from a gunshot wound, LOCO stands over the body with the GOATMAN over his shoulder.

                        GOATMAN:

     More blood.
