Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to. I initially had another post ready to drop on Halloween (last month), but there was a snag in the process. I do hope that eventually that treat will be released soon.
Day 31 of my #31daysofhorror reviews passed a while ago. During #31daysofhorror, I attempted to capture a weird variety of scary films or books every single day of October. I hope you enjoyed following along as much as I enjoyed finding new and interesting pieces to bring to you.
For those of you who have followed this journey, you’re in luck! Today’s TREAT is truly special to me, because it’s an example of how I have recommitted myself to my writing craft. Often story ideas churn in my skull and burn out quickly before I set to writing. Not true for the first serious novel I ever committed myself to writing. I started in high school. My love of fairs and amusement parks inspired me. I spent time in libraries doing research. I wrote on pieces of paper and transferred it to whatever computer I could get my hands on. There wasn’t always a personal computer readily available at home so I walked around with micro-USBs. In college, I kept writing this story, because it just wouldn’t leave me alone. I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning given it life.
I finished that novel a long time ago, but there was a dark dancer in my head whispering, “it’s not good enough“. I changed things, added things, and I would likely keep doing it and be trapped in that dance forever.
Screw that dark dancer!
Today, I release my first novel to the world. It’s story deserves to be told.
In Kärnəvəl, we are introduced to Jonathan and Jacob Patterson, brothers who live in Charlestowne, a place as humdrum as white walls. At home, the order of things is maintained by their father’s fist, and in the streets, the brothers search for things to do. Kärnəvəl, an international traveling circus, parades into town, and the boys’ silent prayers of change appear to be answered. The festive atmosphere takes a turn when a local girl is found butchered on the fair grounds.
Drawn by the magical and mysterious Karnies and the other Kärnəvəl attractions, the brothers risk their safety by going back again and again. As the conflict between the Kärnəvəl and Charlestowne swell to a bloody showdown, the brothers’ adventure will change their relationships, challenge their dreams, and awaken powers and strength they never knew they had.
Karnevel is available for pre-order for ebook and paperback sales! It drops November 28th.
Stay Ghoulish out there friends and family.
